She empowers families and businesses to take control of their situations by introducing the tools they need to get out of medical debt and stay out of medical debt. She is well know for her work, helping families across the country get out of medical debt, on the Real Money segments of ABC World News Tonight. Michelle is also a regular contributor to the popular Podcast, Informed Not Inflamed, where she simplifies ACA/Obamacare while bringing facts to the listeners without political bias. In addition to being the lead resource for many media outlets on health and navigating through the healthcare system, Michelle has published three books on saving money in healthcare: Healthcare for Less, 101 Health Insurance Tips and her most recent that helps the average person navigate through Obamacare while saving money on their healthcare, Healthcare Made Easy. All book are one of kind resources, helping businesses and families navigate through the healthcare system and avoid medical debt in a way that is understandable to all. Michelle’s deep knowledge of the healthcare system stems from a car accident in the late 1990’s, which landed her in the hospital, leaving her with over $150K of medical debt without health insurance. She single handedly took on the healthcare system, bringing her debt to $5,000; paying that off within a year. Years later, her skills were tested once again after saving a loved ones life, with health insurance, using the “new CPR,” and managed to bring a $210K medical bill down to $2,500. Michelle earned a B.S. from George Mason University and an M.S.N in Integrated Health Systems Management from Georgetown University, which was followed several years later by an L.P.N. from Global Health College. Earlier in her career, Michelle worked for the Food and Drug Administration, contributing invaluable research to the FDA Food Labeling Act. Later, she became one of the lead medical HCPCS coders with Arthur Andersen, assisting hospitals and other medical practices with revenue cycle plan integration and an understanding of the complicated reimbursement systems. She also assisted in the formation of healthcare legislation and consulted with many medical companies on operational matters and later co-founded one of the first free clinics in the Northern Virginia Area. Currently, Michelle lectures throughout the country, empowering individuals and businesses to take initiative of their healthcare while providing them the resources to become their own healthcare advocates. She also serves as a healthcare advocate expert for many media outlets, sharing current stories of saving individuals and companies throughout the country thousands of dollars in medical debt while navigating through our complicated healthcare system.
